As the longest-serving First Lady of the United States from 1933 to 1945, she transformed the role into a powerful platform for social change. Roosevelt championed the expansion of women’s roles in the workplace, spoke out courageously for the civil rights of people of color, and worked tirelessly to uplift the marginalized during times of national hardship.
